“"Grow Getters" is an extracurricular urban gardening club focused on education, sustainability, teamwork and purpose. Scholars will create and maintain a school garden and educate their peers and community on the importance of sustainability and healthy eating habits. “Grow Getters” will take the shape of a lunch club open to English Language Learners, young women of color and children currently in the foster care/shelter system. “Grow Getters” will take a culturally responsive approach to gardening by introducing plants and vegetables native to student’s home nations. They will educate each other and the school community on the value of consuming healthy food options and the health benefits of the food they grow.”
