“RISE: Refugee & Immigrant Student Empowerment, is a project-based social emotional learning program for immigrant and refugee students in Baltimore City Public Schools. The RISE model is based on a simple principle: that the immigration experience is a source of strength for young people. In RISE programs, we establish a safe space in which students can voice thoughts and feelings about the experience of immigration and adjustment to a new culture. Through social and emotional and project-based learning, students uncover individual and group strengths, develop their voices and enhance their agency as they navigate their newfound community of peers and adults.”
