“I will be implementing a science curriculum called DIFFERENT into my biology course over the next two years. Using the biology of arthropods and how we feel about them as a touchstone, the lessons are designed to challenge students' perceptions of themselves, others and the natural world through the lens of social and emotional learning. By implementing this curriculum at my school, I hope that students will be better able to navigate change, examine behaviors and habits and see their own differences as assets instead of impediments. The lessons are formulated to be student-led and include student self-reflection and group discussions, while blending it all with STEM and NGSS-based standards and learning objectives.”
