Maya Angelou Schools
Washington, DC
“Maya Angelou Schools is an alternative charter school network in Washington, DC serving a disconnected youth population at our high school, Young Adult Learning Center, and the Maya Angelou Academy at the New Beginnings Youth Development Center, a long-term secure facility for adjudicated, delinquent youth. In 2019, the Clinical Services Department launched a trauma-informed art therapy program with the support of a previous NoVo SEL in Action award. This continued support will enable the continued innovation and codification of the art therapy program, enabling us to serve more students, add a family engagement component, and expand exposure opportunities.”
