“Through our Global Ambassador Mentor Project, OUSD hopes to increase connectedness, persistence, and belonging at school. The mentoring project would initially target indigenous Mam-speaking newcomer students at high schools in Oakland with large numbers of this student group. In each of these schools, older Mam-speaking newcomer students (mentors) would be paired with recently-arrived Mam-speaking newcomer students (mentees) to orient them to school and help them integrate socially and academically.”
