“Healing Trauma Through Dance (HTTD) aims to serve as a movement-based intervention to facilitate the healing of mental and physical wellbeing caused by traumatic childhood experiences. The American school system is flawed and puts Black and Brown girls at a greater risk for punitive punishment compared to their male and white counterparts. It doesn't always provide a safe space for truth and expression. HTTD aims to help combat those notions by providing its participants a safe space for expression and discovery of their true selves. Over the course of 30 sessions, a Dance Movement Therapist will work with students by implementing a movement-based/therapy curriculum that focuses on teaching the social and emotional skills of self expression, coping, self awareness, empathy, growth mindset and effective communication.”
