For young people, reading novels helps them acquire the thinking skills to consider multiple viewpoints, respect differences and become self-aware. Moreover, by prioritizing the reading of multicultural texts and examining injustice in literature and life, students engage in thinking critically in sophisticated and politically charged issues of equity and justice in uncomplicated ways. These critical thinking skills are advantageous to learners not only in the short-run, but well into life as they navigate daily tasks and challenges.”
