“HPS will launch an Ethnic Studies Alumni student-to-teacher pathway through which we will engage Program alumni through paid Fellowships. Building this pathway is critical in Holyoke, where our over 75% Latinx student body is taught by a teaching force that is nearly 80% white. The ES Alumni Fellowship Program will produce positive impacts at multiple levels: Alumni Fellow benefits from resume-building professional experience; ES students benefit from role models who share life experiences; our district takes concrete steps to diversify our teaching staff; and the field of education gains a pool of future educators grounded in equity and social justice.”
