“The project will enhance and expand the existing Cumberland Regional High School (CRHS) Dramatic Arts Academy Traveling Children's Theater Program to integrate peer-led SEL throughout the Cumberland Regional K-12 educational network through dramatic arts experiences. Juniors and seniors from the CRHS Dramatic Arts Academy will develop age-appropriate theater experiences, including performances and talk-back group discussions, to explore SEL-related issues and reinforce skills development. The students will travel to each of the five K-8 constituent district schools three times during the school year to perform and facilitate group discussion reflecting on the importance of SEL and specific SEL skills and competencies. The work will provide an opportunity for participating high school students to develop skills and abilities related to peer leadership, dramatic arts production and performance, and communication, in addition to providing SEL enrichment to the K-8 student population. The project also will serve to unite the Cumberland Regional constituent district schools with Cumberland Regional High School before the transition into ninth grade, offering younger students an opportunity to interact with older peers and to prepare for young adult life.”
