“The "Little Adventures" program engages young children experiencing homelessness in trauma-informed, social skill-building excursions, and outdoor play while their parents access counseling and other SEL resources. Cuidando Los Niños is a nationally accredited five-star preschool and human services nonprofit located in Albuquerque. Our mission is to end the cycle of homelessness for children and families. The proposed program meets this mission by helping children build the strong social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health foundations needed to mitigate long-term consequences of trauma and evade intergenerational homelessness. Our approach involves combining trauma-informed care, a proven SEL approach for treating childhood adversities, with social skill-building play to help vulnerable children practice the five SEL skills of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and responsibility.”
