“'Brockton exSELs' is a social justice initiative to transform social and emotional learning based on dominant U.S. culture to culturally-proficient SEL assessment and instruction to meet the unique needs of the rapidly growing immigrant population in the urban district. English language acquisition coaches, school psychologists and school adjustment counselors (school social workers) will review and redefine the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment through a lens of the demands of English language acquisition and acculturation to U.S. schooling values and norms for newly migrated students. They will develop new guiding questions and principles for SEL and develop transformative professional development for administrators and teachers.”
