“Imagine a school where all of the students look out for one another. This is the future of our school. Our school is a Title 1 school and we focus on positive interactions between teachers, students and their families. This project would take that one step further in implementing positive relationships amongst the students themselves. This project will be piloted in fourth and first-grade classes, wherein student-mentoring relationships will extend through the rest of the students' elementary careers. Students will be able to learn from one another while also developing SEL skills and by being student leaders. Student mentors will be teaching their mentees about SEL skills through the use of picture books and language arts implementations, and therefore, will learn SEL skills themselves.”
