“In 2020-21, Upstream Arts will carry out 30 arts programs designed to nurture social and emotional learning for students with disabilities in Minneapolis Public Schools’ Special Education classrooms or, if needed per COVID-19, online. In each program, professional artists lead interactive activities in theater, music, dance, visual art and poetry that deliberately examine the successful elements of self-expression, social interaction and effective communication. These programs provide a safe space for students with disabilities to explore their interests, practice making choices, “rehearse” positive behaviors and work on skills fundamental to academic success. All programs also include embedded professional development for teachers and aides.”
