Fern Seiden

Thorntons Ferry School
Merrimack School District
Merrimack, NH
“Several Thorntons Ferry School teachers are "early adopters" of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and they demonstrate strong capacity to become teacher leaders in this area. They are poised to catalyze system change by mobilizing other teachers with their enthusiasm and deep skill set at a time when a focus on trauma-informed SEL will be especially needed for our school community. This will be done by leading reflective practice groups after school, featuring book studies, support for secondary trauma and coaching with Trauma-Informed System of Care consultant, Dr. Cassie Yackley. The hope is that this model can be adopted by others schools in the district; a district System of Care Committee can oversee the dissemination of learning. Funding will be used to purchase books and materials, provide financial incentives for teachers and remuneration for teacher-leaders, and to hire the TIC coaching consultant.”
