“Our project engages 5th graders in the routine of weekly journaling with prompts connected to the five SEL competencies. Students will have opportunities to transform text from their writings into exploratory works of mixed-media art. We will work with a well-known teaching artist, Marguerite Jay Gignoux, who will provide students with art kits so that all students can participate in remote art workshops. While we are physically distanced from one another, we will have opportunities to collect their creations and redistribute them to other students to add collaborative marks to every paper. Gignoux will then collect and unify the pieces into a collaborative art installation for our school.”
