SEL Awardee
Joey Gustafson
The Amber Charter Schools
Bronx, NY
“Founded by the Community Association of Progressive Dominicans (ACDP) twenty years ago, Amber Charter Schools is pleased to be a new SEL in Action awardee. Sashemani Elliot, Chief Academic Officer, will lead our efforts to enhance our social and emotional learning opportunities. Our conversations with families confirm that while resilient, our families and children are experiencing the extreme trauma and stress of COVID-19 in NYC, with communities of color hit the hardest. Proactively we will create a strategically tiered response system for ongoing counseling including hosting virtual small groups focused on healing trauma for children and for caregivers and families.”
