“The Dream Team is a group of committed and caring adults assigned to a student to ensure social-emotional and academic success. In the 2020-21 school year, every 9th-grade student will be paired with a dream team captain. The dream team captains will not only be school-based personnel but industry leaders across the city. This captain is responsible for weekly check-ins with the student and will support the student in self-advocacy, goal setting and leading parent conferences. Every 9th-grade student will be administered the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment. This will allow students and their families to understand their unique talents and gifts and help them leverage such gifts for academic success. Dream Team captains will go through initial three-day training, followed by quarterly training on mentorship and school-based opportunities. While we anticipate some turnover, It is our hope that dream team captains will stay with students from 9th-12th grade.”
