JEDI leaders will lead the charge in amplifying student voice at EMSA in regards to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This organization was staff lead for students, but the leadership is now shifting to being completely student lead.
The Purpose of JEDI Leaders:
To help cultivate students' leadership skills to plan and lead JEDI crews (social emotional circles) at EMSA.
To support students in working to plan service learning projects that promote JEDI.
To provide supervised peer restoration support in conflict resolution.
So far, JEDI leaders are supporting the planning of our JEDI crews in classrooms and community crew. They have started a podcast show that is student lead and set to go out monthly in the future. They are supporting the implementation of student SEL learning once a month when the school comes together in yoga and drumming circles. They are learning how to support students in peer restorations.
We need funds to support a training program for this group and purchase equipment in order for them to: Support peer mediation through Kingian Nonviolence, lead yoga circles with peers, lead drum circles with peers, run school wide community crews and lead service learning projects across the school. This will enable this group of 17 students in grades 5-7 to lead their peers in social emotional learning, trauma informed practices and JEDI structures.
