Practice Makes Perfect
The SEL Blog
In 2017, our high-performing Title I high school established a Mindfulness Center offering mindfulness-based practices to nurture student SEL. Facing twin epidemics - COVID-19 and racial injustice, this grant helps us meet this moment by redesigning and extending programming remotely after school. Trained Student Ambassadors with multimedia kits will create mindful podcasts, music and art, facilitating peers’ internal exploration of identity, challenging bias and inequities. Education that fosters compassionate awareness can bend the arc of social/racial/environmental injustice. Workshops in faculty trauma-informed pedagogies and parent self-care will enhance community investment in M.E.LT. a model of SEL in action.
