Practice Makes Perfect
The SEL Blog
The goal of the SEL in Action District Initiative grant is to support all newcomer immigrant secondary students and their families in improving social and emotional wellness through community volunteerism. There are three components. First, there is custom curriculum that are translated to home languages and are culturally relevant. Secondly, funds are allocated for a part-time family engagement specialist who will serve as a point of contact for families and a coordinator of professional development to increase staff capacity. The third component is funds to support community engagement volunteer opportunities for students and families, including virtual mentoring of middle school EL students.
