The "Empower Youth Leadership Project'' provides opportunities for Vermont middle school students to become SEL Leaders. Full-day conferences bring together adolescents to develop social/emotional and leadership skills in a supportive, community-based setting. The collaboration with the Children's Legacy Partnership (a non-profit organization that provides educational support to students in Uganda) helps students gain global perspective as they compare worldviews. With this District Level Award, the Empower Youth Leadership Project will follow conference participants back into their school settings, support them to further build SEL skills, and give back to their communities by teaching SEL lessons in younger students’ classrooms.
