The SEL Blog
The Newcomer Academy enables English learners to begin their time at Sanchez Charter Schools two weeks ahead of classes beginning. They have time to form relationships with peers in circumstances similar to their own, learn how to navigate the campus, are exposed to teachers and administration ahead of the arrival of the bulk of students, and have the opportunity for group bonding and social and emotional learning at a number of outdoor learning experiences. They continue in a learning cohort for the school year and have additional monthly SEL opportunities focusing on being in nature, mindfulness, and self-management.
